About the workshop
This workshop is designed to provide clinicians with an overview of the diagnostic process used in working with clients, using the framework of the DSM IV-TR, the American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic system used in clinical settings and required by most third-party payors.
Covered in this presentation will be how the DSM IV-TR is organized, an explanation of the five axial system, how to use this manual to provide the most accurate diagnosis possible, as well as a review of the ethical issues raised in providing a diagnosis. The participants will also learn how to most efficiently gather the information needed to give a five-axial diagnosis, including a structured initial interview process and a mental status exam.
Practice will be included, with case studies provided for that purpose.
Be sure to bring a DSM-IV.
