About the workshop

This workshop is designed for those mental health professionals who have taken the introductory DSM workshop or who have some familiarity with the diagnostic process, including clinical assessment and diagnosing. the focus will be on using the information gathered in a clinical assessment to make an accurate diagnoses, including the more challenging and/or difficult diagnosing of people who present with either an Axis I or II disorder. Continuing discussion will also focus on the ethics and the diagnostic process, and how to make this often onerous but necessary task a valuable one, for case conceptualization and treatment planning.

Much of the workshop will be experiential in nature, with case studies, small group practice with larger group discussions, as well as time devoted to addressing participant questions. Participants will be encouraged to develop sound rationales for their diagnoses.

About the presenter

Yvonne Owen , PhD , s a clinical psychologist recently retired from Seattle University after 29 years. She developed the diagnosis and assessment class for master's students in the mental health counseling program, and has taught this course since the manual in use was the DSM-II: she has evolved with the course in her knowledge and experience.

Ms. Owen has a new title, Professor Emerita. She maintains a private practice in Seattle where she sees clients.
